Air India is also setting up over 20 Full Flight Simulator (FFS) bays to support training for its Airbus and Boeing fleets.

These simulators, including models for the A350, B777-9, A320, and B737 MAX, will help prepare pilots as new aircraft are delivered, making this one of the largest in-house training facilities in the country.

Air India Aims to Train 50,000 Candidates in the Coming Years

Air India’s new Training Academy, located in Gurugram, is set to become South Asia’s largest aviation training center.

Spanning over 600,000 square feet, the academy aims to train over 50,000 professionals, including pilots, cabin crew, engineers, and security staff.

Producing Skilled Pilots at the Flying Training Organisation (FTO)


To address the growing need for pilots, Air India is launching a Flying Training Organisation (FTO) in Amravati, Maharashtra, one of South Asia’s largest flying schools.

The FTO aims to graduate 180 commercial pilots annually, providing a state-of-the-art training environment with digitally-enabled classrooms and world-class accommodations.

To support this initiative, Air India has ordered 34 training aircraft, including 31 single-engine planes from Piper Aircraft and 3 twin-engine planes from Diamond Aircraft.

The airline is also committed to adding more aircraft as training demand increases.

Strengthening Fleet Maintenance with a Mega MRO Facility


Air India is investing in a cutting-edge Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in Bengaluru, set to open by 2026. This 11-bay facility will enhance the airline’s self-reliance in fleet maintenance, reducing its reliance on third-party services.

Equipped with advanced maintenance technology, it will be capable of handling both wide-body and narrow-body aircraft for base maintenance.

The facility will also stock major aircraft parts, allowing for faster turnaround times and more efficient operations.

Building a Skilled Engineering Workforce with BMTO


To bolster its aircraft maintenance capabilities, Air India is launching a Basic Maintenance Training Organisation (BMTO) in Bengaluru.

This program will offer certified training in aircraft maintenance engineering, approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Located near Bengaluru International Airport, the BMTO will offer students valuable hands-on experience.
