Air India orders 34 trainer aircraft for its new flying school
Air India, a leader in India’s aviation industry, is taking a significant step toward self-reliance in pilot training.
The airline has placed an order for 34 trainer aircraft, supporting the establishment of South Asia’s largest Flying Training Organisation (FTO) at Belora Airport in Amravati, Maharashtra.

This ambitious project is part of Air India’s Vihaan.AI transformation program, aimed at strengthening its training infrastructure and creating a robust pipeline of skilled pilots for its expanding fleet.
As part of its initiative to revolutionize aviation training, air india has ordered 31 single-engine trainer aircraft from Piper Aircraft, USA, and 3 twin-engine trainer aircraft from Diamond Aircraft, Austria.
These advanced aircraft, air india new planes equipped with glass cockpits, G1000 avionics systems, and Jet A1 engines, will ensure cutting-edge training for aspiring pilots. The delivery is set to begin in 2025.
Emirates Flight Academy Trains 85 Future Aviators in 2024
The FTO at Belora Airport in Amravati is designed to be a world-class facility. Spanning over 10 acres, it will feature digitally enabled classrooms, a digitized operations center, hostels, and an in-house maintenance facility to optimize training and operational efficiency.
With high safety standards, the FTO aims to graduate 180 commercial pilots annually, addressing the growing demand for skilled aviators in India and beyond.
This initiative complements Air India’s broader efforts to invest in aviation training. The airline recently inaugurated air india aims to train 50,000 employees at its gurugram facility Haryana, the largest in South Asia, covering an impressive 600,000 square feet.
This academy underscores Air India’s dedication to enhancing the aviation ecosystem in the region. The upcoming FTO at Amravati represents a milestone in India’s journey toward self-sufficiency in pilot training.
Once operational by the second half of 2025, following regulatory approvals, it will stand as a testament to Air India’s commitment to fostering talent, bolstering infrastructure, and driving excellence in the aviation sector.
