IndiGo Must Stop Using Turkish Airlines Jets Over Geopolitical Rift

IndiGo, India’s largest airline, is making travel even more convenient by launching its first-ever long-haul flights to Europe. As the carrier rapidly expands with 1,000 aircraft on order, it aims to dominate India’s booming aviation market.

While challenges such as competition from Air India, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air, along with Airbus delivery delays, could impact its growth, IndiGo remains ahead with an impressive 61% domestic market share.

After months of anticipation, IndiGo has officially announced its first long-haul destinations: Amsterdam and Manchester. Starting July 2025, pending regulatory approvals, the airline will operate nonstop flights from Delhi to both cities. Initially, each route will have three weekly flights, with plans to increase frequency as more aircraft join IndiGo’s fleet.

To support its long-haul operations, indigo has entered into a damp lease agreement with indigo norse atlantic Airways. The airline has already inducted a indigo 787 aircraft and plans to lease three more by late 2025.

These wide-body jets will facilitate IndiGo’s European expansion ahead of the expected delivery of Airbus A321XLR and A350-900 aircraft starting in 2027.

IndiGo’s Growth Trajectory: Aiming for Global Leadership

By 2030, indigo airlines fleet could grow to nearly 600 aircraft, rivaling Ryanair’s current size. While it may not surpass major US airlines this decade, IndiGo has the potential to become the world’s largest airline in the 2030s if it maintains its aggressive growth strategy.

The airline has been strengthening its European presence through codeshare agreements over the past two years, connecting multiple European cities to India. IndiGo is also evaluating additional European markets for potential direct services in the future.

Enhancing the In-Flight Experience with Sula Vineyards

In a move to elevate the passenger experience, IndiGo has partnered with Sula Vineyards, India’s leading wine producer. Starting March 1, 2025, travelers on Delhi-Bangkok flights can enjoy a curated selection of premium wines, including Sula Chenin Blanc and Sula Red Zinfandel.

Expanding Asian Network: Mumbai to Krabi Flights

Beyond Europe, indigo is also growing its Asian network. The airline recently announced direct flights between Mumbai and Krabi, Thailand, starting March 23. Initially, six weekly flights will operate, with plans to increase to daily services shortly after the launch.
