IndiGo to Begin First-Ever India–Greece Nonstop Flights with A321XLR
IndiGo will operate six weekly nonstop flights to Athens from January 2026 with its first Airbus A321XLR, opening direct India–Greece connectivity and expanding its Europe footprint.
A new chapter in India–Europe air travel is about to begin. IndiGo, India’s largest and most preferred airline, is gearing up to make history by becoming the first Indian carrier to operate direct flights between India and Greece.
Starting January 2026, subject to regulatory approvals, IndiGo will launch six weekly nonstop flights to Athens with its brand-new Airbus A321XLR—India’s first of its kind.
Athens: IndiGo’s First A321XLR Destination
By the end of 2025, IndiGo will welcome its first Airbus A321XLR, a next-generation long-range narrow-body aircraft. With this milestone, Athens will be the inaugural international destination served by the new aircraft, positioning IndiGo as a pioneer in connecting India directly to Greece.
Flight Operations
- Route Coverage: Direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Athens.
- Frequencies: Three flights per week from each city, totaling six weekly nonstops.
- Launch Date: Operations expected from early January 2026, subject to approvals.
Gateway to Greece and Beyond
IndiGo’s new Athens service will not only connect India to Greece but also open access to the Greek islands including Santorini, Mykonos, and Crete, as well as other European destinations. This move is expected to boost:
- Leisure travel for Indian tourists exploring Greece’s landscapes and islands.
- MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) and wedding tourism, which are gaining momentum between the two countries.
- Trade and cultural exchanges, further deepening India–Greece ties.
The Airbus A321XLR Advantage
The Airbus A321XLR (Xtra Long Range) is a breakthrough in narrow-body aircraft technology. With a range of up to 8,700 km, it allows airlines like IndiGo to reach destinations in Southern Europe without stopovers—combining long-haul reach with single-aisle efficiency.
Onboard experience will include:
- Economy Class seating
- IndiGoStretch seats with more legroom and added comfort
- Enhanced in-flight entertainment and cabin experience
This aircraft will enable IndiGo to compete effectively on medium to long-haul routes while keeping fares cost-efficient.
Strengthening India–Europe Connectivity
The launch comes at a time when demand for travel between India and Europe is soaring. Greece, fast emerging as both a tourism hotspot and a strategic trade hub, complements India’s expanding outbound travel market.
With direct Athens flights, IndiGo will not only tap into leisure travelers but also play a role in strengthening economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties between the two nations.
