Singapore Airshow Day 1: Airbus and Boeing Secure New Airline Orders
From Boeing’s 737 MAX deal with Air Cambodia to Airbus A321neo orders and COMAC’s C909 showcase, Singapore Airshow Day 1 opened with major aircraft commitments.
As the Singapore Airshow opened its doors, the first day itself made one thing clear — global demand for new aircraft remains strong.
Major manufacturers Airbus, Boeing and COMAC wasted no time announcing fresh deals, with airlines from Asia stepping forward to firm up expansion and modernization plans.
From narrowbody jets to specialized firefighting and medical aircraft, Day 1 delivered a mix of commercial ambition and operational versatility.
Boeing lands major deal with Air Cambodia
boeing aircraft kicked off the show on a strong note with Air Cambodia confirming an order for up to 20 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. This agreement marks Air Cambodia’s largest-ever narrowbody order, signaling a major step in the airline’s growth strategy.
Currently, Air Cambodia operates a relatively small fleet consisting mainly of Airbus and ATR aircraft, according to ch-aviation data.
The introduction of the boeing 737-8 will support the airline’s expanding regional network, which already includes domestic services and international routes to Vietnam, India, Thailand, China, Japan and Hong Kong. With its fuel efficiency and range, the 737 MAX 8 is expected to play a central role in strengthening connectivity across Asia.
Airbus secures A321neo order from Tigerair Taiwan
Airbus also announced fresh business on Day 1, with Tigerair Taiwan signing a purchase agreement for four A321neo aircraft. This marks the airline’s first-ever order for the A321neo, a significant upgrade for its fleet.
The low-cost carrier currently operates 17 A320 Family aircraft, including nine A320ceo and eight A320neo jets. Adding the A321neo will give Tigerair Taiwan greater commonality across the A320 Family, helping to reduce pilot training, maintenance complexity and operating costs.
As the largest member of the A320neo Family, the A321neo offers airlines improved operating economics and extended range, allowing greater flexibility on regional and medium-haul routes. Compared to previous-generation aircraft, it delivers at least a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions, making it a key asset for airlines focused on efficiency and sustainability.
COMAC showcases growing momentum with C909
China’s aircraft manufacturer COMAC also drew strong attention at the airshow. The company confirmed it has secured an agreement for up to six firefighting variants of the C909 aircraft, highlighting the platform’s growing role beyond traditional passenger operations.
The C909 received certification approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in December 2025, clearing the way for broader commercial and special-mission deployments. At Singapore Airshow, COMAC is showcasing both the C909 and the larger comac c919, with the C909 displayed in a medical configuration, complete with ophthalmic diagnostic and surgical facilities.
Adding to the spotlight, Indonesian airline TransNusa is also displaying one of its operational C909 aircraft, underlining the type’s entry into regional airline service.
The C909 is designed as a multi-role platform and can be adapted for medical rescue, freighter operations, emergency response and command missions, making it attractive to both civil operators and government agencies.
A strong opening signal for the airshow
Day 1 orders at the Singapore Airshow underline the aviation industry’s continued confidence in narrowbody aircraft and mission-adaptable platforms. Airbus, Boeing and COMAC all showcased not just products, but clear strategies — focusing on efficiency, fleet commonality and operational flexibility.
With more announcements expected in the coming days, the opening day has already set a high bar, signaling that Singapore Airshow 2026 is shaping up to be a key stage for aircraft deals in the Asia-Pacific region.
