Comac Unveils New Business Jet to Rival Gulfstream & Bombardier

China is stepping deeper into the world of premium aviation. After establishing itself in the commercial aircraft sector, the state-owned planemaker.

Comac is now targeting the lucrative business jet market—one long dominated by Western giants like Gulfstream, Bombardier and Dassault.

Comac Pushes Into Private Jet Market

The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac) has taken a significant step by unveiling a completed version of its first large-cabin business jet, the Comac Business Jet (CBJ).

The aircraft was showcased at a major aviation exhibition in Guangzhou in October and later drew international attention at the Dubai Airshow, highlighting China’s growing confidence in its aerospace capabilities.

Performance, Power, and Range

The CBJ is powered by twin General Electric CF34-10A engines, offering a range of 2,700 nautical miles with eight passengers aboard. It cruises at 520 knots and features an operational ceiling of 39,000 feet, placing it alongside established Western competitors.

A notable capability is its validation for operations at high-altitude airports such as Daocheng Yading Airport—one of the world’s highest at 14,470 feet. The jet requires a takeoff roll of 6,722 feet, demonstrating solid performance for a jet in its class.

Cabin Capacity and VIP Comfort

Typical CBJ configurations seat 12 to 19 passengers, with an option to fit up to 29 seats. Comac has developed five standard VIP layouts tailored for executive travel, long-haul comfort, and luxury lifestyles.

Key Cabin Features Include:

  • A dedicated VIP suite with a double bed and private lavatory
  • Lie-flat first-class seats in the reception zone
  • Meeting and dining area with an eight-seat table
  • Configurable lounges, business seating, and relaxation zones
  • Cabin noise levels as low as 55 dB in the VIP suite
  • High-speed broadband via phased-array satellite equipment

A New Challenger in the Global VIP Market

By showcasing the CBJ internationally—especially at the Dubai Airshow—Comac is signaling a strong ambition to compete in the premium aviation sector.

The move reflects China’s assessment that global demand for large-cabin VIP jets will continue rising, particularly in Asia and the Middle East.

With customizable interiors, competitive performance and steady improvement in manufacturing capability, the Comac Business Jet is China’s bold entry into a space traditionally controlled by Western aerospace leaders.
