Boeing Lands Big Order from Gulf Air, Creates 30,000 U.S. Jobs
Gulf Air announces a major fleet expansion with up to 18 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, reinforcing long-haul routes and creating 30,000 jobs in the U.S.
In a move set to redefine its global ambitions and deepen U.S.-Bahrain aerospace ties, Gulf Air – the national carrier of Bahrain – has taken a bold leap forward.
Gulf Air to Expand Fleet with Up to 18 Dreamliners
The airline has officially announced its intent to expand its widebody fleet with up to 18 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, reinforcing its long-haul capabilities and creating a wave of economic opportunity across the Atlantic.
A Boost to the U.S. Economy
This major deal, once finalized, will increase Gulf Air’s firm order book to 14 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with additional options potentially bringing the total to 18. Notably, this agreement is expected to support approximately 30,000 jobs across the United States, highlighting the far-reaching impact of international aviation partnerships.
The announcement was made in the presence of prominent dignitaries, including Bahrain’s Minister of Finance and National Economy, Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, and U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. They were joined by Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope and Gulf Air Group Chairman Khalid Taqi, marking the occasion as a significant milestone for both nations.
The Dreamliner Advantage
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, globally acclaimed for its fuel efficiency, range, and next-generation passenger experience, is already the backbone of Gulf Air’s international operations. With 10 Dreamliners currently in service, the airline connects Bahrain to over 50 destinations across Asia, Europe, and North America. These new additions will further strengthen Gulf Air’s reach and enhance its ability to serve both new and existing markets.
Since its commercial debut in 2011, the 787 Dreamliner family has revolutionized air travel, opening more than 425 new nonstop routes and transporting over 1 billion passengers worldwide. It features cutting-edge technology, including turbulence-sensing systems for smoother flights, large panoramic windows, and lower cabin altitude with more humidified air — all designed for a superior flying experience.
As Gulf Air continues to modernize its fleet and expand globally, this order not only underscores the airline’s growth strategy but also reinforces the enduring aerospace partnership between Bahrain and the United States — creating jobs, building capacity, and connecting the world like never before.
