New Delhi, 02nd December 2022: Air India, India’s leading airline and a Star Alliance member, announced that its maiden batch of cabin crew trainees and a significant batch of new pilots since privatization has graduated.

The batch of 215 cabin crew and 48 pilots, all Indian nationals, received their wings following extensive
training, and are now cleared to operate as fully-qualified crew. Selected from more than 13,000 candidates from around the country, the cabin crew trainees passed through a 15-week program imparting safety and service skills and were coached to exemplify the best of Indian hospitality and Tata group culture.

The training program included extensive classroom and in-flight training at the airline’s training facility in Mumbai as well as familiarization flights. The new pilots, comprising 40 men and 08 women, completed their training at Air India’s Hyderabad training campus and will commence operating on the Airbus A320 fleet. Besides the two graduating batches, more than 59 new pilots are in various stages of training to support the airline’s ambitious
growth plan.

The company has raised the frequency of flights between key cities in the domestic sector and has also announced direct flights between Indian cities and key global destinations like Doha, San Francisco, Vancouver, and Birmingham. Further, Air India is set to commence direct flights from Delhi to key European cities like Milan, Vienna, and Copenhagen, and from Mumbai to New York, Paris and Frankfurt.

Air India Rolls Out A350s for Delhi-New York JFK and Newark Routes

In a major development for North American travelers, Air India has announced the deployment of its state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900 aircraft on two key routes: Delhi to New York and Delhi to Newark.

The service on the Delhi-New York route will commence on November 1, 2024, while the Delhi-Newark route will see its inaugural flight on January 2, 2025.

The A350’s Business class will set new standards with 28 private suites, each equipped with full-flat beds, direct aisle access, and personal wardrobes. Economy class will be configured to accommodate 264 passengers in a 3-4-3 layout. Across all cabins, passengers will enjoy the latest Panasonic eX3 in-flight entertainment system, offering over 2,200 hours of content.

This strategic deployment marks a notable enhancement in Air India’s U.S. operations, with 60% of its flights to the U.S. now featuring new or upgraded cabin interiors. The air india new international routes currently operates 51 weekly flights to five U.S. destinations: New York JFK, Newark, Washington DC, Chicago, and San Francisco.
