Turkey Rolls Out Second KAAN Prototype for Flight Testing

1. Mitsubishi X-2 (Japan)

Japan’s Mitsubishi X-2 is a technological demonstrator designed to test advanced aerospace technologies. First flown on April 22, 2016, the X-2 is paving the way for Japan’s future fighter program. This high-tech aircraft features stealth, propulsion, and avionics systems designed for Japan’s F-X fighter program, set to replace its aging fleet. With a speed of Mach 2.25 and a range of 2,900 km, the X-2 lays the groundwork for Japan’s air superiority in the future. With a development cost of $400 million, the X-2 is a major step for Japan into next-generation aviation.

2. KF-21 Boramae (South Korea)

South Korea’s KF-21 Boramae is a cutting-edge fifth-generation fighter designed for multirole capabilities. It first flew on July 19, 2022, and is currently undergoing testing. Developed by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) with Lockheed Martin’s support, the KF-21 boasts a top speed of Mach 1.81 and a ferry range of 2,900 km. South Korea plans to produce 120 of these fighters to enhance its air combat capabilities and potentially export them internationally.

3. AMCA (Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft – India)

India’s AMCA program, led by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), is one of the country’s most ambitious aerospace projects. The AMCA will be India’s fifth-generation fighter, offering advanced stealth, multirole capabilities, and cutting-edge avionics. The first flight is expected in 2026, with speeds reaching Mach 2.15 and a combat range of over 3,240 km. Once operational, the AMCA will replace older fighter aircraft, strengthening India’s air defense capabilities.

4. FC-31 (China)

China’s FC-31, also known as the J-31, is a fifth-generation stealth fighter designed to compete with the F-35. Though still in development, the FC-31 first flew in October 2012 and is expected to become a key player in China’s naval aviation, with carrier-based capabilities in the future. The aircraft features advanced stealth, radar evasion, and multirole flexibility, with speeds of Mach 1.8+ and a range of 4,000 km. China plans to use the FC-31 for domestic needs and future exports.

5. Su-75 Checkmate (Russia)

Russia’s Su-75 Checkmate, developed by Sukhoi, is a lightweight, multirole fighter designed for air superiority and precision strikes. Unveiled at the 2021 MAKS Airshow, the Su-75 is expected to take flight in 2026. This stealth fighter offers a top speed of Mach 1.8 and a combat range of 2,900 km. The Su-75 is positioned as an affordable alternative to fighters like the F-35, and Russia aims to export it to international markets.

6. KAAN (Turkey)

Turkey’s KAAN is a next-generation fighter developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI). The KAAN is designed for air superiority and multirole operations, incorporating advanced radar systems, stealth features, and sophisticated avionics. With a speed of Mach 1.8 and a combat range of around 2,200 km, the KAAN will play a central role in Turkey’s defense strategy. Its combination of cost-effectiveness and advanced capabilities makes it a strong contender in the global fighter market.
