The strategic alliance between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and France has reached a major milestone with the official unveiling of the first Rafale fighter jet for the UAE.

This marks a significant advancement in defense collaboration, reinforcing the UAE’s commitment to modernizing its air force with cutting-edge military technology.

Strengthening UAE-France Defense Ties

On January 20, 2025, the UAE Ministry of Defence (MoD) revealed its first Rafale F4 fighter jet, in accordance with the contract signed with France’s Dassault Aviation.

The aircraft, currently stationed at Dassault Aviation’s Flight Test Center, will undergo rigorous flight testing before its scheduled delivery to the UAE Air Force & Air Defence by the end of 2026. This move aims to bolster the UAE’s aerial combat capabilities and regional security.

In December 2021, the UAE placed a historic order worth approximately €16 billion ($16.6 billion) for Rafale jets. Initially, deliveries were expected between 2027 and 2031, but the timeline has been expedited, with the first aircraft set to enter service by 2027.

Signed during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Abu Dhabi, this deal is the largest overseas sale of the Rafale fighter jet, surpassing orders from Egypt (54 jets) and Qatar (36 jets).
