Singapore Airlines Axes Vancouver Flights, Exits Canada
Singapore Airlines has stated that it will discontinue ’s sole Canadian service later this year. The five-star airline will stop running a direct service between Singapore and Vancouver as of October 2023.
Presently, the only flight offered by Singapore Airlines to Canada is a nonstop service between Singapore (SIN) and Vancouver (YVR), which is run three times per week using an Airbus A350-900. Regrettably, this route will shortly be discontinued for travelers from Canada.
This change is just one more illustration of how global hub airlines are being forced to restructure their networks in the wake of the pandemic in order to better balance supply and demand.
Worldwide carriers were unable to handle the sudden increase in demand for travel after the demise of COVID because of a lack of capacity and a slow return of aircraft to the skies. Some are currently looking into more modern centres abroad to protect themselves from potential interruptions of the same nature.
After serving the country consistently for 20 years, SIA initially stopped operating on the Singapore-Seoul-Vancouver route in April 2009 as a result of the global financial crisis. This termination marks the company’s second exit from the Canadian market.

DOT Proposes New Passenger Compensation Rules for Flight Disruptions
In an official statement, PIA spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez Khan confirmed that the first flight schedule has been approved, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s recovery efforts. The EU ban had previously cost PIA approximately Rs40 billion ($144 million) annually in lost revenue, compounding its financial struggles.
With European operations restarting, PIA is now setting its sights on the United Kingdom. The airline plans to seek approval from the UK Department for Transport (DfT) to resume flights to major British cities such as London, Manchester, and Birmingham.
