France has recently deployed major military assets to UAE

France has recently deployed major military assets — including Rafale fighter jets and the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle — in response to escalating tensions in the Middle East linked to the growing conflict involving Iran.

The move follows recent U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iranian targets, reportedly including the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, which triggered Iranian retaliatory drone and missile attacks across the region. Some of these strikes reportedly hit French facilities in the United Arab Emirates, raising security concerns for French forces and personnel.

According to an announcement by French President Emmanuel Macron on March 3, 2026, France has ordered its nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, along with its air wing of approximately 20–30, Dassault Rafale Marine fighters, escort frigates, and support vessels, to redirect from planned North Atlantic and Baltic Sea exercises toward the eastern Mediterranean.

The carrier strike group is expected to take around ten days to reach operational position, where Rafale fighters and E-2 Hawkeye airborne early-warning aircraft will help monitor and secure regional airspace.

France has already reinforced its presence in the Gulf by deploying Rafale fighter jets to Al Dhafra Air Base near Abu Dhabi in the UAE, where hundreds of French personnel are stationed. These aircraft have reportedly conducted interception missions against Iranian drones following a recent drone strike that damaged a French hangar facility over the weekend.

Additional reinforcements include air-defense systems, airborne radar platforms, and support assets aimed at intercepting missiles and drones targeting French forces and regional partners. Macron emphasized that the deployments are aligned with France’s defense commitments to Gulf allies such as Qatar, Kuwait, and the UAE, describing the mission as defensive in nature — focused on protecting allies, maintaining regional stability, and preventing the conflict from spilling into Europe.

French officials stress that the deployment represents a deterrence and protection posture rather than direct offensive operations against Iran. While some reports characterize the move as France “entering” or escalating the conflict, official statements frame it as part of broader international efforts — alongside the United States and other partners — to safeguard regional security and ensure the protection of maritime routes.

The situation remains highly fluid as France joins wider multinational efforts to stabilize the region amid rising tensions.
