Air India Unveils New Boeing 787-9 on Delhi–Toronto Route, Ends Fuel Stop

Air India Unveils New Boeing 787-9 on Delhi–Toronto Route, Ends Fuel Stop

Air India is set to make travel between India and Canada faster and more comfortable than ever before.

Starting 1 August 2026, the airline will begin operating its factory-fresh Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the Delhi–Toronto route, eliminating the current fuel stop in Vienna. The move not only cuts travel time by nearly three hours but also brings Air India’s latest premium cabin experience to Canadian passengers for the very first time.

Air India to Operate Non-Stop Delhi–Toronto Flights

Air India has announced a major upgrade to its Delhi–Toronto service by deploying its brand-new Boeing 787-9 aircraft beginning 1 August 2026. The new aircraft will allow the airline to remove the enroute fuel stop at Vienna and operate the service as a non-stop flight, subject to available airspace.

The change will significantly reduce the total journey time from Delhi to Toronto. The current flight, which includes a technical fuel stop, takes around 20 hours, but the new non-stop service is expected to reduce the travel time to approximately 17 hours. The return flight from Toronto to Delhi will continue to operate non-stop with a flight time of up to 16 hours.

At the same time, Air India is restoring daily flights on the route. The airline had temporarily reduced the service to five weekly flights during June and July 2026 due to higher fuel costs and geopolitical challenges affecting flight operations.

Brand-New Boeing 787-9 Debuts on the Canada Route

The Delhi–Toronto route will become the first service to Canada operated by air india seat map international 777 latest Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, built specifically for the airline.

The aircraft features a modern three-class cabin with 30 Business Class suites, 28 Premium Economy seats, and 238 Economy Class seats. Most notably, Canadian passengers will experience Air India’s Premium Economy cabin for the first time, offering extra legroom, wider seats, greater recline, and improved comfort on the ultra-long-haul journey.

Business Class passengers will enjoy fully enclosed suites with direct aisle access, 79-inch fully flat beds, wireless charging, generous storage space, and large 17-inch 4K entertainment screens.

Premium Economy features a spacious 2-3-2 seating configuration with a 38-inch seat pitch, adjustable leg rests, and 13.3-inch 4K entertainment displays, while Economy Class passengers will benefit from ergonomically designed seats, personal device holders, and upgraded 11.6-inch touchscreens.

Upgraded Onboard Experience

Beyond the new seats, Air India has also enhanced the overall passenger experience across all cabins.

Passengers will have access to more than 3,000 hours of entertainment through the Thales AVANT Up inflight entertainment system, complete with Bluetooth audio connectivity, USB-A and USB-C charging ports, AC power outlets, and high-definition touchscreens.

The new Dreamliner also introduces mood lighting inspired by Indian wellness traditions, refreshed onboard menus featuring Indian and international cuisine, premium tableware, upgraded bedding, and redesigned amenity kits aimed at providing a more consistent premium experience.

Daily Flight Schedule from August

With the introduction of the Boeing 787-9, Air India will increase the Delhi–Toronto route to daily operations from 1 August 2026.

The schedule is as follows:

  • AI187: Delhi (01:45) → Toronto (09:30)
  • AI188: Toronto (12:30) → Delhi (14:05 next day)
