Boeing Surpasses Airbus at Farnborough Airshow 2026
The Farnborough International Airshow 2026 has once again proven why it is regarded as one of the world’s most influential aerospace events. According to reports from Reuters, Boeing emerged with a narrow lead over Airbus during the show. By the close of the event, manufacturers had announced more than 327 firm aircraft orders and commitments, with Boeing securing around 173 orders, while Airbus recorded approximately 154 orders.
Why Boeing Came Out Ahead
Boeing’s strong performance was driven by several high-profile agreements from major airlines and aircraft leasing companies.
One of the biggest announcements came from SMBC Aviation Capital, which committed to 100 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, while also placing an order for 100 Airbus A320neo-family aircraft, highlighting the continued demand for both manufacturers’ single-aisle jets.
Another major boost came from AerCap, which ordered 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with options to convert some aircraft to the larger 787-10 variant.
Among airline customers, Philippine Airlines committed to up to 20 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, strengthening its long-haul expansion plans.
Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Air also announced conversions involving up to 28 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, while Uganda Airlines placed an order for four Boeing 737 MAX 8s and four Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
Additional Boeing business included new 737 MAX commitments from Luxair, leasing agreements involving Vietnam Airlines, and leasing arrangements for Aerolíneas Argentinas.
Airbus Continues Strong Momentum
Although Boeing finished slightly ahead, Airbus also secured several important deals.
Saudi low-cost carrier flynas ordered 25 additional Airbus aircraft, including 20 A321neo and 5 A330-900neo aircraft. The latest agreement increases flynas’ total Airbus commitments to 235 aircraft.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines ordered 10 Airbus A220-300s, expanding its regional fleet.
In another milestone, Somon Air of Tajikistan placed its first-ever Airbus order, purchasing two A320neos and two A321neos.
Embraer Also Scores Major Wins
Brazilian manufacturer Embraer enjoyed a successful airshow as well.
The Abra Group ordered 20 Embraer E2 family aircraft, while Spain’s Binter Canarias confirmed additional E195-E2 jets.
Japan’s Fuji Dream Airlines also expanded its fleet with new E175-E2 aircraft.
Cargo Aircraft and Engine Deals
The airshow also featured significant cargo and engine announcements.
MSC Air Cargo confirmed an order for five Boeing 777-8 Freighters, reflecting continued growth in the global air cargo market.
On the engine side, British Airways selected Pratt & Whitney GTF engines for up to 63 Airbus A320neo-family aircraft, while CFM International secured multiple LEAP engine commitments.
One of the largest engine announcements came from IndiGo, which signed an agreement covering 100,000 CFM LEAP engine components and services, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the A320neo family.
A Strong Airshow Despite Production Constraints
Although commercial activity remained slightly below some pre-show expectations due to ongoing production and supply chain limitations, Farnborough 2026 once again demonstrated the strength of global aviation demand.
The majority of new business centered on single-aisle aircraft such as the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX, while wide-body aircraft including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A350 also attracted substantial commitments.
