Air India Boosts Connectivity with Icelandair, Air Mauritius Codeshare Deals
Air India strengthens international connectivity by signing enhanced codeshare deals with Air Mauritius and Icelandair, adding new routes across Europe, Africa, and India.
As part of its bold international expansion, Air India is rapidly strengthening its global network through strategic partnerships.
In a major development at the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) in New Delhi, the airline announced enhanced codeshare agreements with Air Mauritius and Icelandair, unlocking new routes and offering travelers seamless connectivity across Europe, Africa, and the Indian subcontinent.
Air Mauritius Partnership Takes Flight
Air India and Air Mauritius—the national carrier of Mauritius—have expanded their existing codeshare pact, adding more destinations across India, Mauritius, Réunion, South Africa, and Madagascar. The new agreement was signed in the presence of Campbell Wilson, CEO & MD of Air India, and Kishore Beegoo, Chairman of Air Mauritius.
Under this enhanced agreement, Air India will place its ‘AI’ designator code on Air Mauritius-operated flights to Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa and Antananarivo in Madagascar. This allows Air India passengers to travel on a single ticket with baggage checked through to their final destination via Mauritius.
Air India already codeshares with Air Mauritius on flights between Mumbai, Delhi, and Réunion, while Air Mauritius places its ‘MK’ code on Air India flights serving major Indian cities including Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, and Goa. Now, the MK code will also be extended to Air India flights between Mauritius and Mumbai, providing more flexibility and options for travelers on both sides.
New Horizons with Icelandair
In another strategic milestone, Air India has joined hands with Icelandair to significantly boost connectivity between India and Iceland, opening up 15 new routes across India and Europe for passengers of both airlines.
As part of the deal, Air India will add its ‘AI’ code on Icelandair flights operating between Reykjavik and major European hubs such as London-Heathrow, London-Gatwick, Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Milan, and Zurich.
In return, Icelandair will place its ‘FI’ code on Air India-operated flights connecting Delhi to Amsterdam, Paris, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, and London, and Mumbai to Frankfurt and London. These new codeshare routes will offer customers enhanced travel flexibility, smooth transit times, and unified baggage policies—all under a single booking.
Available from July 1, 2025
The newly added codeshare routes with both Air Mauritius and Icelandair will be available for booking starting July 1, 2025, promising greater global reach for Air India passengers and seamless connections for travelers between India, Europe, and Africa.
