Utah Jazz’s Boeing 757-200 forced to emergency landing after bird strike: On Tuesday, the Utah Jazz team was leaving Salt Lake City International Airport around 1 p.m Tuesday to travel to Memphis for their next game against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night on a chartered Delta flight 8944, just minutes into the journey, the plane hit a flock of birds. The engine was shut down as a precaution. A statement on the Utah Jazz website said the bird strike caused a fire in the left engine. The crew declared an emergency and the pilots circled back around quickly and landed the plane safely. The plane taxied back to the gate.
Later Tuesday evening, team members were boarded a new plane that took off shortly thereafter. The plane landed at Memphis International Airport shortly after 11 p.m., according to FlightRadar24.
Utah Jazz has the best record in the NBA at 35-11, led by stars Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert.
