IndiGo orders 500 more aircraft as part of its expansion plan

IndiGo commences four new direct flights from North Goa

IndiGo Airlines has announced an expansion plan to expand its service to other European locations, including Turkey, in line with Air India’s recent agreement with Boeing and Airbus. In order to further grow to Turkey and other countries in Europe, IndiGo has collaborated with Turkish Airlines and ordered 500 aircraft, according to Vinay Malhotra, said in an interview with the news agency ANI.

“For the expansion plan, IndiGo has bought 500 additional planes. Presently, 1,800 flights per day are made, with 10% of those being on international routes. Most of our current foreign flights are focused on the Indian subcontinent and several nearby nations. We travel as far as Istanbul and Turkey. Our desire to travel further led to a relationship with Turkish Airlines. This codeshare relationship enables us to enter Europe in a way that has never been possible before, he said.

“In Europe, we have 27 precise points, including the UK, France, Italy, Ireland, Austria, Switzerland, and a great number of other points. With our codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines, which has several frequencies with these points, we are able to transport customers from India to Istanbul and from Istanbul to other points. We are able to connect people from all around India into Delhi and Mumbai, then on to Istanbul and ultimately Europe, mainly to our 76 online hubs within India, he added.

Speaking further on the expansion strategy and the need for more aircraft, he added, “We currently operate just a little over 300 aircraft, and we have an astounding over 500 more on order. Naturally, the frequency and timing of when we receive an airplane greatly influence the expansion. But, as and when the aircraft arrive, some will be placed in the domestic market and some will be placed abroad. He added that two new IndiGo destinations, namely Jakarta, Indonesia, and Nairobi, Kenya, would be introduced soon.
