IndiGo and BIAL Join Forces to Build Cutting-Edge MRO Facility in Bengaluru

In a major step toward boosting India’s aviation infrastructure and enhancing operational efficiency, IndiGo, the country’s leading airline, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL).

This strategic agreement marks the beginning of a significant collaboration aimed at establishing a world-class Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), Bengaluru.

As part of this landmark MoU, BIAL will allocate approximately 31 acres of land to IndiGo for the development of a state-of-the-art MRO facility. This initiative is aligned with IndiGo’s long-term vision to expand its operational capabilities and support its rapidly growing fleet of over 400 aircraft.

The upcoming facility will be capable of servicing both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, greatly enhancing the airline’s maintenance efficiency and turnaround time.

Beyond the MRO infrastructure, the MoU outlines a broader framework for collaboration between indigo and BIAL. This includes coordinated efforts in network expansion, infrastructure development, and joint marketing initiatives. These efforts aim to position Kempegowda International Airport as a premier aviation hub for both domestic and international travel, as well as for cargo operations.

The establishment of the MRO facility in Bengaluru is also expected to provide a significant boost to Karnataka’s aerospace and defence ecosystem. It aligns with the state’s ambition of becoming a key player in the aviation and aerospace sectors by attracting investments, generating employment, and fostering technological innovation.

IndiGo already operates MRO facilities in Delhi and Bengaluru, and the expansion at KIA represents a continuation of its commitment to building a robust support system for its fleet operations.
