Embraer Establishes New Base in India, Eyes Growth in Multiple Sectors
New Delhi, May 30, 2025 – Brazilian aerospace company Embraer has strengthened its presence in India by opening a new, fully-owned subsidiary with a corporate office in AeroCity, New Delhi. This move shows Embraer’s long-term commitment to India’s growing aerospace and defense sector.
The new subsidiary will focus on opportunities in defense, commercial and business aviation, services and support, and the emerging urban air mobility sector. Embraer is building a local team for operations, including roles in engineering, supply chain, and procurement.
“India is a key market for us,” said Embraer CEO Francisco Gomes Neto. “We want to support India’s growth and ‘Make in India’ initiative.”
Current Presence in India:
- Almost 50 Embraer aircraft of 11 types are already in use across commercial, defense, and business aviation.
- These are supported by Embraer’s service network in India.
Strengthening India–Brazil Ties:
Embraer’s expansion reflects growing cooperation between Brazil and India. The company will also attend the IATA AGM 2025 in New Delhi, engaging further with Indian aviation stakeholders.
Recent Developments:
In February 2024, Embraer signed an MoU with Mahindra Defence Systems to explore opportunities under the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program, offering the C-390 Millennium.
About the C-390 Millennium:
- A modern multi-mission military aircraft.
- Can fly faster, farther, and carry more cargo (up to 26 tons) than other aircraft in its class.
- Can perform many missions: cargo/troop transport, medevac, search and rescue, firefighting, and aerial refueling.
On the commercial side, Embraer’s E-Jets help improve regional air connectivity in India, especially for tier 2 and 3 cities, supporting India’s goal of becoming a major aviation hub.
Star Air, which operates only Embraer aircraft (E175 and ERJ145), has helped enhance regional air links.
In Indian defense, Embraer aircraft include:
- Legacy 600 used by the Indian Air Force and BSF for VIP transport.
- ‘Netra’ AEW&C aircraft, based on the ERJ145 platform, used by the Indian Air Force.
