The first aircraft operated by Akasa Air, India’s newest airline, left Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport for Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport today to mark the start of the company’s commercial operations.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad was to be the destination of the inaugural flight, which departed Mumbai at 10:05 a.m.

“Today marks a critical milestone in Akasa Air’s journey as we successfully launch our commercial operations with our maiden flight from Mumbai to Ahmedabad,” stated Vinay Dube, founder and CEO of Akasa Air.

This is not only a monument to the ladies and men of Akasa who made this day possible; it is also a testament to India’s continuous economic revolution and the country’s fast developing civil aviation scene.

The airline has already revealed a total of five routes connecting five different cities, including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Bengaluru, and Chennai. The airline is aiming to develop a strong pan-India presence with a fleet induction plan of two 737 MAX aircraft every month, with a focus on metro to tier 2 & 3 route connectivity.

By the end of March 2023, the fleet will have grown to 18 aircraft, and over the following four years, the airline will add another 54 aircraft, bringing its total fleet to 72.
