This Airline to Launch World’s Longest 29-Hour Flight Covering 12,000 Miles
China Eastern’s new Shanghai–Buenos Aires service will be the world’s longest flight at 29 hours, offering nonstop connectivity across 12,000 miles twice weekly.
Imagine being on a plane for more than an entire day—nearly 29 hours in the sky. Sounds exhausting? For some, it might be a dream adventure.
China Eastern Airlines is about to make aviation history by launching the world’s longest commercial flight, connecting Shanghai to Buenos Aires on a 12,000-mile journey that pushes the limits of long-haul travel.
The World’s Longest Flight Takes Off
Starting in December 2025, China Eastern Airlines will begin operating this mammoth route, linking China’s financial hub with Argentina’s vibrant capital. The flight, covering more than 10,600 nautical miles, will set a new benchmark in ultra-long-haul aviation.
29 Hours in the Sky
- Outbound Journey (Shanghai → Buenos Aires): Around 25.5 hours, helped by high-altitude winds.
- Return Journey (Buenos Aires → Shanghai): A staggering 29 hours, making it the longest scheduled passenger flight in the world.
The service will operate twice weekly:
- China Eastern 745: Shanghai → Buenos Aires (Mondays & Thursdays, starting December 4).
- China Eastern 746: Buenos Aires → Shanghai (Tuesdays & Fridays).
The Aircraft Behind the Journey
The flight will be operated using the Boeing 777-300ER, one of the longest-range commercial aircraft in service. Despite its range, the aircraft will make a technical stop in Auckland, New Zealand for refueling. However, passengers will remain onboard, with no chance to stretch their legs outside the cabin during the two-hour layover.
Ticket Prices: Not for the Faint of Heart
- Economy Class: $1,538 – $2,270 (one-way in December).
- Business Class: Starts at $5,000, offering lie-flat beds to survive the marathon flight.
This makes the route one of the most premium-priced long-haul journeys in the aviation industry.
Why It Matters
China Eastern’s Shanghai–Buenos Aires service is more than just a record-breaker:
- It connects two major economic hubs directly, strengthening trade and tourism.
- It eliminates the hassle of multiple layovers, offering travelers a simpler but longer journey.
- It places China Eastern in the spotlight as a pioneer in ultra-long-haul travel.
