Airbus Begins Final Assembly of A350F, the Next-Gen Widebody Cargo Jet
Airbus kicks off final assembly of its A350F freighter, combining lighter design, fuel efficiency, and 2027 emissions compliance.
As global demand for air cargo continues to rise, aircraft manufacturers are racing to deliver next-generation freighters that promise efficiency, capacity, and sustainability.
Airbus has stepped firmly into this arena with the A350 Freighter (A350F) — a modern widebody cargo aircraft that has now officially entered the assembly stage. Airbus VP for A350 component delivery, Desbordes Aurelia, shared on LinkedIn that the first fully equipped aft section has been rolled out from the Hamburg hangar.
Final Assembly Kicks Off in Toulouse
Airbus has begun final assembly of the A350F at its Toulouse facility, marking a significant program milestone. The aircraft, designated MSN700, is progressing rapidly with fuselage and wing deliveries across Germany and France.
Key Fuselage Deliveries from Airbus Atlantic
In August, Airbus Atlantic’s Montoir-de-Bretagne site delivered the forward fuselage sections (11–14) and central sections (15–21). This facility, formerly known as Saint-Nazaire, equips and assembles all forward and central fuselages for the A350 family.
Compliance with 2027 Standards
The A350F is the only new-build freighter fully designed to meet ICAO’s 2027 CO₂ emissions rules. With a structure 46 tonnes lighter than rivals and the largest cargo door in the industry, Airbus is setting new benchmarks in payload efficiency and compliance.
Advanced Design and Technology
The freighter features a carbon fiber airframe, state-of-the-art aerodynamics, and Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, reducing fuel burn and emissions by 20% compared with current freighters. It is also engineered for quieter operations, reducing noise impact around airports.
Focus on Sustainability
Aligned with industry goals, the A350F is certified to operate with 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at entry into service, with the potential to use 100% SAF by 2030. This positions the aircraft as a forward-looking solution for eco-conscious operators.
Meeting Market Demand
With airlines under pressure to replace aging, less efficient freighters, the A350F responds to strong demand for fuel-efficient, future-ready cargo aircraft. Despite Airbus pushing the entry-into-service date to late 2027, the aircraft’s development remains on track.
