Once, Shrikant was to deliver a parcel at the airport and there, in conversation with the airport security guards, he learnt that one could become a pilot even without being enrolled into the Indian Air Force, as was his belief.
Next followed a conversation with a tea-seller outside the airport who told him about a pilot scholarship program by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). This was all the encouragement he needed.
Son of a security guard, Pantawane, used to be a delivery boy in his school days. He switched between delivering and school to support the dwindling finances of his family. He then bought an auto in the hope that he would earn enough to get ends meet.
Immediately after his class 12 examinations, Shrikant joined a flight school in Madhya Pradesh but he continued to struggle with English. His friends at the flight school helped him with this and soon, he had crossed the language barrier too.

Pantawane passed the examination with flying colours and got his commercial pilot license. But the global recession and a sluggish aviation market kept him at bay. He joined as an executive in a company to support himself and his family needs, but always kept hoping.
Two months ago, Pantawane received a call from IndiGo Airlines. The hard work has finally paid off and he is joining the company as a first officer.
