IndiGo Kicks Off 31-Acre MRO Project at Bengaluru Airport to Power Fleet of 400+ Aircraft
IndiGo begins construction of a massive MRO facility in Bengaluru to support its expanding fleet and strengthen aviation infrastructure.
India’s largest low-cost carrier, IndiGo, continues to soar as it expands both its fleet and international network.
To support this rapid growth, the airline has launched construction of a 31-acre Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. This facility marks a major investment in long-term operational strength and regional employment.
Strategic Partnership with BIAL
In May 2025, IndiGo signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) for the allocation of land and broader collaboration. The agreement outlines joint efforts in route development, infrastructure growth, and marketing strategies, aiming to establish Bengaluru as a major aviation and cargo hub.
Massive Capacity to Serve a Growing Fleet
The new MRO complex will feature up to 12 aircraft bays and will be nearly three times larger than the combined capacity of IndiGo’s current MRO facilities in Delhi and Bengaluru. It is designed to handle both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, making it a versatile and future-ready hub for maintenance operations.
Supporting Growth and Safety
With a current fleet of over 400 aircraft, timely servicing is essential for IndiGo’s reliability and safety standards. The indigo a321xlr mro expansion facility, expected to be operational by 2028, will play a pivotal role in supporting fleet expansion while minimizing maintenance-related downtimes.
Boosting Local Employment and Economy
Beyond aircraft maintenance, the MRO project is expected to generate hundreds of jobs, contributing significantly to the local economy. It reflects IndiGo’s commitment not only to operational excellence but also to regional development.
Strengthening Global Connectivity
indigo airlines has recently expanded its international reach indigo longest route with direct flights to London Heathrow and a codeshare agreement with KLM, offering enhanced connectivity to European destinations. The new MRO infrastructure complements this global vision by ensuring top-tier aircraft readiness.
