Qantas scraps Perth to Jakarta flight
Due to the suspension of the highly anticipated Perth to Johannesburg service in March and the cancellation of the Perth-Jakarta service, Qantas’ plans to establish Perth as a major western hub have encountered difficulties. From November 1 through March of the the next year, the Johannesburg service will continue. After that, it will end permanently.

The issue with the new services is that flights at Terminal 3 require security and biosecurity screening (T3). According to Qantas, Terminal 3′s limited infrastructure makes it challenging to provide the levels of border security and biosecurity screening necessary to process travellers from certain destinations, including South Africa.

Passengers from Johannesburg will still be able to leave from T3 as a workaround, but from November 1 through January 15 of 2023, the QF66 flight from Johannesburg will land at T3 in Perth. In order to quickly connect to their onward service, passengers with a connecting Qantas flight will clear customs and immigration in T3. To clear customs, travellers who arrive in Perth will take a bus from Terminal 3 (T3) to Terminal 1 (T1).
The Perth-London service, as well as the Perth-Singapore flight, will continue to run through T3 in both directions, according to the airline.
Tickets on the Perth-Johannesburg route are now once again available for purchase until March 25, 2023, after Qantas temporarily halted ticket sales for both of its Johannesburg and Jakarta services while it worked to address the biosecurity issues.
