IndiGo Must Stop Using Turkish Airlines Jets Over Geopolitical Rift

When it comes to Indian low-cost airlines, IndiGo consistently ranks at the top. Launched in 2006, the airline has rapidly grown to capture around 63.6% of India’s domestic market share.

As of April 2025, IndiGo has become the world’s most valuable airline, boasting a market capitalization of $23.45 billion.

In 2024, IndiGo was recognized as the world’s second fastest-growing airline in terms of seat capacity (10.1% growth) and led globally in flight frequency growth (9.7%), according to OAG data.

The airline also made history by reporting a record annual profit of $1 billion for FY 2024 — a first for any Indian airline. Looking ahead, IndiGo plans to launch business class service on select routes by the end of 2024.

As India’s largest low-cost carrier, IndiGo operates a wide network of domestic and international routes. Its fleet primarily consists of narrow-body Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft, with a few wide-body Boeing 777-300ERs leased for long-haul international flights.

Based on data available through April 2025, IndiGo’s longest routes — calculated by great circle distance (the shortest path between two points on a sphere) — are listed below.

These include operations using both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, along with key route details.

Narrow-Body Limits:
IndiGo’s longest routes mostly use A320neo and A321neo aircraft, with a range of 6,300–7,400 km. The Bengaluru–Denpasar route pushes these limits. The upcoming A321XLR (2025) may allow longer flights, though its range is now around 4,000 nm due to updates.

Wide-Body Use:
Routes like Delhi and Mumbai to Istanbul use wet-leased Boeing 777-300ERs. Future plans include wet-leased Boeing 787-9s and Airbus A350-900s (from 2027) for long-haul growth.

Route Focus:
Only direct, non-stop routes by IndiGo airlines are listed. Codeshare flights operated by partners like Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways are excluded.

Expansion Plans:
IndiGo aims to expand to 40 international destinations by end-2025, including possible new routes to Bishkek and Western Europe. Lack of owned wide-bodies limits ultra-long-haul reach for now.
