In a bold move to enhance pilot training and operational safety, Cathay has introduced a state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo full-flight simulator at its Cathay Flight Training Centre in Hong Kong.

This addition marks another major step in the airline’s mission to strengthen its position as a global leader in aviation training and safety standards.

Cutting-Edge Training with CAE Technology

The new A320neo simulator has been manufactured by CAE, a renowned global provider of aviation training and critical operations solutions. Equipped with the latest simulation and motion technologies, the device provides pilots with a highly realistic training experience that mirrors real-world flying conditions.

This collaboration further reinforces Cathay’s commitment to world-class pilot training, ensuring that its flight crews are among the best prepared in the industry as the airline expands and renews its fleet.

Cathay’s Expanding Vision for the Future

Cathay’s latest investment comes as part of a massive HK$100 billion initiative aimed at transforming every aspect of its operations—from fleet renewal and cabin upgrades to digital innovation and customer experience.

Over the coming years, more than 100 new aircraft—including narrowbody, regional widebody, long-haul widebody, and large freighters—will join the Cathay Group’s modern fleet. Among these, over 30 aircraft will be Airbus A320neo and A321neo models, which are pivotal to the airline’s regional and short-haul strategy.

Celebrating the New Simulator at Cathay House

To commemorate this milestone, Cathay hosted a special ceremony on 24 October 2025 at Cathay House. The event was attended by key leaders and partners, including Cathay Chief Operations and Service Delivery Officer Alex McGowan and Director Flight Operations Captain Chris Kempis, who welcomed the delegation from CAE led by Michel Azar-Hmouda, Division President, Commercial Aviation.

The ceremony also featured Captain Lawrence Wong, Chief of Flight Standard at Hong Kong’s Civil Aviation Department, as a special guest, highlighting the importance of this achievement for Hong Kong’s aviation ecosystem.

Empowering the Next Generation of Aviators

The Cathay Group currently operates a fleet of over 230 passenger and freighter aircraft, including:

  • 16 Airbus A321neo aircraft with Cathay Pacific, and
  • Over 40 Airbus A320, A321, A320neo, and A321neo aircraft operated by HK Express, its low-cost subsidiary.

With the addition of this new CAE full-flight simulator, the Group further strengthens its commitment to nurturing the next generation of aviation professionals—ensuring that every Cathay pilot is trained with the best technology, precision, and safety practices available.

A Step Toward the Skies of Tomorrow

As Cathay continues its ambitious transformation journey, the new A320neo simulator stands as a testament to the airline’s enduring focus on innovation, safety, and operational excellence. It represents not just a training upgrade—but a leap forward in the art and science of flight, empowering pilots to soar confidently into the future of aviation.
