Air India is the first in Asia to integrate Apple AirTag

Air India is rapidly advancing its passenger experience, making travel even more seamless and convenient. In a groundbreaking move, the airline has become the first in Asia to integrate Apple AirTag with its baggage-tracking system and mobile app.

This innovative feature allows passengers using Apple devices to securely track the location of their checked baggage in real time, ensuring greater peace of mind during their journey.

Revolutionizing Baggage Tracking with Apple AirTag

As India’s leading global airline, Air India transports over 100 million pieces of baggage annually, with more than 99.6% arriving together with their owners.

However, for the small fraction of bags that may be delayed due to airport baggage system issues, flight misconnections, or other factors, the integration of Apple AirTag tracking will help locate and expedite the recovery process.

Seamless Integration with the Air India Mobile App

This latest enhancement builds upon Air India’s existing baggage-tracking feature available on its mobile app and website. The system utilizes real-time data from airports to keep travelers informed about their baggage status.

Customers who add their flights to the “My Trips” section of the Air India app will automatically receive baggage updates after check-in. Additionally, they can track their bags by scanning the barcode on their baggage receipts or through the “Track My Bags” tab on the website.

How to Use the Apple AirTag Feature

For passengers whose baggage does not arrive at their destination, Air India offers a simple process to report and track their missing items:

  1. Report Missing Baggage – Guests should visit Air India’s Baggage Counter at the airport to file a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
  2. Share AirTag Location – Using the ‘Find My’ app on their Apple device, travelers can generate a ‘Share Item Location’ link and submit it via the Air India mobile app or website.
    • Mobile App: Go to the ‘Customer Support Portal,’ select ‘Baggage,’ then choose ‘Lost and Found Check-in Baggage’ to provide the AirTag link.
    • Website: Visit the ‘Lost and Found Check-in Baggage’ section on Air India’s Customer Support Portal and enter the AirTag link along with the PIR number.
  3. Receive Updates – Passengers will receive an acknowledgment email with a link to check the status of their baggage.
  4. Baggage Recovery – Air India’s authorized airport teams will use the AirTag location data to locate and reunite passengers with their baggage as quickly as possible.

Privacy and Security Measures

To ensure passenger privacy, the location-sharing feature automatically ends once the baggage is retrieved or after seven days. Travelers can also manually stop sharing at any time.

To use this new feature, passengers must have Apple devices running iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS 15.2 or later.
