Air India, India’s leading global airline and a Tata-owned carrier, is transforming international travel with improved connectivity and seamless transit options.

The airline has optimized its international schedules, enabling quicker connections between the UK, Europe, Australia, and South-East Asia. Additionally, Air India Dallas services are set to expand as part of its broader Air India international network upgrades 2025.

The airline is also shifting its Tokyo operations from Narita International Airport (NRT) to the centrally located Haneda Airport (HND) and expanding its codeshare agreement with All Nippon Airways (ANA).

Faster Connections for a Seamless Travel Experience

By refining its flight schedules, Air India has reduced connection times to as low as 2.5 hours, offering one of the fastest transit options on key international routes.

Relocation to Tokyo Haneda for Improved Accessibility

Starting March 31, 2025, Air India will relocate its four weekly non-stop Delhi-Tokyo flights from Narita to Haneda Airport. This move enhances passenger convenience, providing a quicker and more affordable route to central Tokyo.

Haneda Airport is just 18 km from downtown Tokyo, reducing travel time to major city destinations significantly. For example, the journey from Haneda to Tokyo Station takes approximately 30 minutes, compared to nearly an hour from Narita.

Expanded Codeshare Partnership with ANA

Alongside the transition to Haneda, Air India is strengthening its collaboration with ANA through an expanded codeshare agreement. Pending regulatory approvals, effective April 1, 2025, Air India will add its ‘AI’ flight code to ANA’s services between Haneda and six key Japanese cities: Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Okinawa, Osaka, Sapporo.

This expansion enables passengers to book a single ticket for their entire journey with baggage checked through to their final destination. Likewise, ANA will add its ‘NH’ code to Air India flights between Delhi and Tokyo Haneda, along with domestic routes to Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Pune.

The airlines initially signed a codeshare agreement in April 2024, covering Delhi-Tokyo flights. This enhanced partnership now offers passengers additional perks, including lounge access and priority boarding under the Star Alliance program.

Rising Indian Travel to Japan

Japan is becoming an increasingly popular destination for Indian travelers. According to the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), over 233,000 Indian visitors traveled to Japan in 2024—a 40% surge from the previous year. Air India’s new flights to Tokyo Haneda and its extended codeshare agreement aim to support this growing demand.

These flights will be operated using Air India’s new planes, specifically the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, featuring 18 Business Class flatbeds and 238 Economy seats. Passengers will enjoy smooth domestic and international connections across Asia and Europe.

Strengthened European Connectivity

Beyond Japan, Air India has expanded its codeshare agreements with Lufthansa, SWISS, and Austrian Airlines, significantly boosting its European network. Nearly 60 new codeshare routes, covering 12 Indian and 26 European cities.

To support its expanding fleet and growing operations, Air India continues to invest in its workforce through the Air India Cadet Pilot Program.
