The much-anticipated new Air Force One planes—intended to transport the U.S. president—are now facing significant delays, with delivery pushed to 2029 or later.

This setback has reportedly left former President Donald Trump frustrated, as he was expecting the aircraft to be ready sooner.

Air Force One: The Next Generation

The two new jets, originally scheduled for delivery by 2026-2027, were designed to replace the aging fleet with state-of-the-art features. These include advanced military avionics, self-defense systems, modern meeting rooms, and luxurious living spaces—making the aircraft a flying “Oval Office.”

Trump’s Frustration with Boeing

Trump, who played a key role in negotiating the Air Force One contract during his first term, has expressed disappointment over Boeing’s failure to meet deadlines. Sources say he personally confronted Boeing’s CEO about the delays, which the company attributes to supply chain issues and changing project requirements.

Meanwhile, discussions have emerged about acquiring and refitting a luxury jet to fill the gap. Elon Musk, reportedly involved in government cost-cutting discussions, has also been consulted on potential alternatives.

Cost and Controversy

The U.S. Air Force has already committed $3.5 billion of the $4.3 billion budget to Boeing. However, the aerospace giant is struggling, having already taken a $2.4 billion loss on the contract. Some of the delays stem from decisions made during Trump’s first term, according to former Air Force officials.

A Personal Touch?

Trump has long been vocal about his vision for Air Force One, advocating for a bold red, white, and blue design to replace the Kennedy-era blue and white scheme. He has even compared the presidential aircraft to his own private jet, “Trump Force One,” which boasts gold-plated interiors and custom upgrades.

With the delays mounting, Trump is said to be exploring every possible option to speed up the process or find an interim solution.
