This Airline’s offers New Inflight Medical Kit Saving Lives at 38,000 Feet

Emirates, a globally renowned airline committed to passenger safety and comfort, has taken inflight medical care to new heights with a cutting-edge telemedicine solution.

Recognizing that health emergencies can happen anywhere—even mid-flight—Emirates has joined forces with Parsys Telemedicine to introduce an advanced onboard medical system that ensures passengers receive high-quality care at 38,000 feet. This groundbreaking initiative is already proving to be a lifesaver.

With an investment of over $2.4 million, Emirates has co-developed a state-of-the-art ‘telemedicine station’ tailored for the unique needs of inflight medical emergencies. The new system is set to be deployed across 300 aircraft over the next few years and includes features like high-definition video conferencing, remote passenger assessment, secure data transmission, and a 12-Lead Telecardia ECG.

These advancements empower Emirates’ highly trained cabin crew to handle medical situations efficiently, potentially saving lives during critical moments.

An Inflight Medical Revolution

Emirates has always equipped its aircraft with high-quality medical tools, but this latest Parsys Telemedicine Kit marks a major leap forward. Developed over a year of collaboration, this best-in-class system includes:

The Parsys Telemedicine Kit for Emirates – A compact, portable station that allows cabin crew to gather passengers’ vital signs and medical data efficiently.
The Parsys Cloud – A secure, cloud-based platform enabling real-time communication between cabin crew and Emirates’ 24/7 Ground Medical Support team in Dubai.

The kit features an array of medical devices, including a pulse oximeter, thermometer, blood pressure monitor, glucometer, and electrocardiogram (ECG). Thanks to Bluetooth-enabled transmission, vital signs are automatically sent to the MedCapture© device, eliminating the need for manual data entry and ensuring accurate, real-time monitoring.

Real-Time Medical Support at 38,000 Feet

At the heart of this innovation is the MedCapture© device—a specialized tablet featuring a customized software interface aligned with Emirates’ comprehensive medical procedures. This allows cabin crew to seamlessly operate the system, even in high-stress situations. The tablet’s capabilities include:

Live communication with ground-based doctors, enabling immediate expert assessments.
Visual evaluation of injuries or medical concerns, allowing remote diagnosis.
Direct data transfer to medical professionals, ensuring passengers receive prompt and accurate medical guidance.

One recent case demonstrated the effectiveness of this system. During a flight to Lyon, France, an elderly passenger suffered a serious cardiovascular emergency, causing a sharp drop in oxygen levels.

World-Class Medical Training for Cabin Crew

emirates ensures its cabin crew are equipped with life-saving skills through a rigorous 8-week ‘ab-initio’ training program at the Emirates Cabin Crew Training Centre in Dubai. The program covers:

🔹 Emergency response training for fainting, choking, breathing difficulties, allergic reactions, and critical illnesses.
🔹 First-aid techniques, including CPR, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use, and even childbirth assistance.
🔹 Advanced simulation-based medical training, ensuring crew members can handle complex medical scenarios onboard.

Cabin crew are required to undergo annual refresher courses and participate in realistic flight simulation exercises to keep their skills sharp. These include a 1.5-hour online course, a 2-hour hands-on practical session, and assessments on CPR, AED use, severe bleeding, and allergy management.
