Aviation is entering a new era of sustainability! Safran Aircraft Engines has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by securing certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for its ENGINeUS 100 electric motor.

This marks the first-ever certified electric motor designed to power next-generation air mobility, reinforcing Safran’s leadership in electric propulsion.

A New Era of Certified Electric Flight

The ENGINeUS 100 electric motor received EASA certification after an extensive testing campaign, including:

  • 1,500 hours of rigorous testing to ensure reliability and safety.
  • 100+ hours of real-world flight testing to validate performance.

This achievement is the result of four years of collaboration with EASA to establish airworthiness standards for electric propulsion and refine certification methods.

The ENGINeUS 100 stands out due to its advanced features:

  • Integrated Power and Control Electronics – Eliminates the need for external control units, simplifying installation.
  • Compact and Lightweight Design – Achieves an impressive weight-to-power ratio of 5 kW/kg.
  • Efficient Air Cooling System – Enhances performance without the need for complex liquid cooling systems.
  • High Power Output – Delivers up to 125 kW, making it ideal for diverse aircraft propulsion architectures.

To meet increasing demand, Safran Aircraft Engines is preparing for large-scale production. By 2026, the company will establish four semi-automated production lines in Niort (France) and Pitstone (UK), with an initial capacity of over 1,000 electric motors per year, scalable for future growth.

Powering the Future of Air Mobility

The ENGINeUS 100 is designed for multiple aircraft types, enabling the next wave of sustainable aviation:

  • Fully electric aircraft (2 to 4-seater planes)
  • Hybrid-electric regional transport (19-passenger aircraft)
  • Future commercial aircraft hybridization (for 150-passenger jets)

Leading industry players have already integrated Safran’s ENGINeUS and GENeUS motor solutions, including AURA AERO, Bye Aerospace, CAE, Diamond Aircraft, Electra, TCab Tech, and VoltAero.
