LIMA 2025 takes off with record participation from nations
The 17th edition of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) officially opened Monday, welcoming defense contractors, aerospace companies and military delegations from 24 countries. Organizers say LIMA 2025 is poised to be one of the largest iterations of the biennial event.
Held at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre and Langkawi International Airport, the event showcases advancements in aerospace and maritime defense technologies, with a strong emphasis on regional security collaboration and industry partnerships.
Static Displays and Air Assets See Significant Growth
This year’s edition features 43 static air assets, up from 34 in the previous edition. The fleet includes 26 Malaysian aircraft and 17 from international participants. These aircraft are on display throughout the exhibition, offering aviation enthusiasts and industry professionals an up-close look at modern air capabilities.
In addition, 57 aircraft are participating in the flying displays, featuring a mix of domestic and international teams. Highlights include aerial performances by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), Layang-Layang Flying Academy, the Russian Air Force, the Indonesian Air Force and the United States Pacific Air Forces.
Flying Displays Despite Inclement Weather
Inclement weather disrupted the opening day’s flying schedule, resulting in a truncated program. Despite the delay, several high-profile aerobatic displays thrilled spectators.
Notable performances included the U.S. Pacific Air Forces’ F/A-18 Hornet, the Russian Knights’ SU-35s, Indonesia’s Jupiter Aerobatic Team flying the KT-1B, and the RMAF’s Sukhoi SU-30MKM.
LIMA 2025 runs through May 24 and is expected to draw tens of thousands of trade visitors and members of the public. The event continues to serve as a strategic platform for defense diplomacy, aerospace innovation and international cooperation.
