Sweden moves closer to C-390 acquisition via joint procurement

Embraer has secured a contract to sell two C-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft to an undisclosed customer. The agreement also includes a comprehensive training and support package, along with the supply of spare parts.

This latest deal marks the 10th nation to select the C-390, reinforcing its status as a preferred choice for advanced military airlift solutions.

The aircraft embraer will be specially configured to meet the customer’s operational requirements, which include tactical transport of troops and vehicles, humanitarian aid, disaster management, and medical evacuation missions.

With this sale, the C-390 joins the fleets of nine other countries, including Brazil, Portugal, Hungary, South Korea, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, Sweden, and Slovakia.

Since its entry into service with the Brazilian Air Force in 2019, followed by the Portuguese Air Force in 2023 and the Hungarian Air Force in 2024, the C-390 has demonstrated outstanding performance.

The fleet has collectively logged over 15,500 flight hours, achieving a mission capability rate of 93% and mission completion rates exceeding 99%, showcasing its reliability and productivity in various operational scenarios.

Embraer Proposes Armed Variant of C 390M India’s IAF

The C-390 Millennium offers remarkable capabilities in its class, including a payload capacity of 26 tons, superior speed of 470 knots, and an extended range. It is designed to execute a wide array of missions such as cargo and troop transportation, airdrops, medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting, and humanitarian relief.

The aircraft is capable of operating on temporary or unpaved runways, including packed earth, soil, and gravel, enhancing its operational flexibility.

In its KC-390 configuration, the aircraft is equipped with air-to-air refueling systems, making it versatile as both a tanker and a receiver. Notably, it has demonstrated its capability to refuel another KC-390 in flight using wing-mounted pods, further emphasizing its multi-mission design.
