Aviation watchdog obtains €348,000 in compensation for air passengers
The Commission for Aviation Regulation (CAR), which is the industry watchdog, collected €348,000 in refunds and compensation for disgruntled travelers in the previous year. The 2022 CAR annual report states that during the previous year, it received 2,302 legitimate complaints about airlines, with 2,221 of those complaints including lengthy delays and cancellations.

CAR received 1,043 complaints about lengthy delays and 1,178 complaints about cancellations. After the Covid-19 shutdowns in 2021 and 2020, the aviation sector rebounded strongly; last year, the number of legitimate complaints jumped by 55%, from 1,479 in 2021 to 2,302 in 2022.
According to the report, 600 of these legitimate concerns have been resolved as of January 30th, with 567 of them being upheld. According to the study, more than €120,000 in refunds were collected when CAR intervened, and more than €228,000 in compensation was given to passengers in connection with the 567 complaints that were upheld.

Aer Lingus and Ryanair, the two largest airline operators in Ireland, were responsible for 66% of complaints in 2022. According to the statistics, 830 complaints were made against Ryanair and 1,253 against Aer Lingus.
According to the study, out of 1,253 complaints filed against Aer Lingus, 146 were upheld, 297 were dismissed, and 810 still have investigations pending. In regards to Ryanair, 445 complaints were under investigation, 224 complaints were not supported, and 161 complaints were upheld.
The report also confirms that CAR handled 507 claims from clients of failed businesses that were reported in 2021 and who last year received refunds totaling €844,180 from bankruptcy protection bonds held by the Commission, the Traveler’s Protection Fund, and the return credit note programme. The Commission reported a profit of €48,000 last year. While the Commission’s net income was €4.14 million, its costs came to a total of €4.69 million.

First Look: IndiGo Takes Delivery of A321neo with New Business Class
India’s largest domestic airline, IndiGo (6E), celebrated its 18th anniversary in August 2024 by announcing a major upgrade: a new Business Class product called “IndiGo Stretch.”
Now, the airline has officially taken delivery of its first Airbus A321neo aircraft fitted with these premium seats. Registered as VT-ICF, this first A321neo with the new configuration took off from Hamburg (XFW) at 6:06 PM local time, operating flight 6E9001.

The launch route for IndiGo’s A321neo with IndiGo Stretch seats will be from Delhi to Mumbai, starting November 14, 2024. After this initial route, the airline plans to expand the offering across its network.
Airbus completed the final assembly of this special aircraft in Hamburg, where the A321neo Final Assembly Line is located. Enthusiastic planespotters got a sneak peek of the new IndiGo Stretch interior before the aircraft’s official delivery to India.
Tobias Gudat, a planespotter on X.com, captured images of the aircraft, still marked with its test registration, showcasing its fresh Business Class interior.
Adding a distinctive touch, each IndiGo aircraft featuring the Stretch product will have the slogan “IndiGo Means Business” displayed on the fuselage, signaling a new era of premium travel for the airline.
