Air India Unveils Mental Wellness App for Crew and Families After AI171 Crash
Air India introduces a dedicated emotional and mental health app for crew and families, featuring therapy, psychiatry, and over 600 self-care resources under its Wellness.AI programme.
The Tata Group-owned airline, while continuously expanding its network for passengers and enhancing convenience, has now taken a major step towards caring for its own people.
In the aftermath of the tragic Air India flight AI171 crash in June, the carrier has rolled out a dedicated emotional and mental wellness app for its pilots, cabin crew members, and their families — a move aimed at addressing the high stress and emotional toll faced by aviation professionals.
Comprehensive Mental Health Support
The new app offers more than 600 expert-designed self-care techniques, along with access to one-to-one therapy and psychiatry sessions. Employees can also use in-built tools for journaling, mood tracking, goal setting, and even AI-powered chatbot support for real-time guidance.
Part of the Wellness.AI Programme
This initiative is part of Air India’s broader Wellness.AI programme, designed to ensure accessible, professional mental health care for staff working in high-pressure operational roles. The app’s flexible, on-demand format allows crew and staff to book sessions, browse through qualified therapists, and track their mental health progress at their own pace.
Family Inclusion at No Cost
Importantly, the services are available not just to Air India employees but also to up to three of their dependents — entirely free of charge. Once registered, employees can add family members to the plan, ensuring that those closest to them also receive the same mental health support.
Responding to a Tragedy
The launch comes nearly two months after the AI171 crash in Ahmedabad, which deeply affected Air India staff, especially flight crew. Many have reported heightened levels of stress, anxiety, and emotional fatigue since the incident, with family members equally shaken by the risks their loved ones face.
A Step Towards Healing
By providing round-the-clock mental wellness tools, therapy access, and family support, Air India hopes to create a healthier, more resilient workforce capable of meeting the demands of modern aviation while safeguarding their mental well-being.
