Air India revises concessionary fares for senior citizens, students

The baseline fare discount provided by Air India to seniors and students flying in economy has been cut in half. The updated basic fare discount will take effect on September 29.
In order to rationalize airfare, Air India said that it had decreased their senior citizen and student discounts from 50% to 25%. The airline, which was recently acquired by the Tata Group, claimed that the concessions were being cut back on in light of the current state of the market.
We have made the decision to rationalize our fares in light of the general market dynamics and trend, according to an Air India official. Even after this action, the carrier will still provide seniors and students a base rate discount that is roughly twice as large as that offered by other private airlines. The discounts offered to travellers in other categories besides seniors and students remain unchanged.
A 50% discount is available to members of the armed forces, paramilitary forces, war widows, widows of the Assam Rifles, Central Armed Police Force, General Reserve Engineering Force, and winners of the President’s Police Medal for Valor and Police Medal for Valor Arjuna.
