Air India Launches Its First Flagship Maharaja Lounge at Delhi Airport

Air India has taken a major step in redefining premium air travel in India with the unveiling of The Maharaja Lounge, its first-ever flagship lounge, at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), New Delhi.

Blending timeless Indian heritage with contemporary luxury, the new lounge sets a fresh benchmark for comfort, design, and hospitality—signaling Air India’s renewed focus on world-class customer experience as it transforms into a truly global airline.

A new era of premium travel

Designed to reflect air india refreshed brand identity, The Maharaja Lounge balances understated sophistication with warm Indian elegance. This flagship facility is the first of several modern lounges Air India plans to roll out across key airports in India and internationally, as part of its broader transformation journey.

The lounge will be progressively opened to First Class and Business Class passengers, Gold and Platinum Maharaja Club members, and eligible Star Alliance customers starting 16 February 2026.

Design rooted in heritage, shaped by modern luxury

Conceptualised by renowned global design studio Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), the lounge features premium interiors, refined furnishings, and carefully curated ambient lighting. Every design element aligns seamlessly with Air India’s new visual philosophy while celebrating India’s rich cultural legacy.

Thoughtfully placed art installations throughout the lounge narrate stories inspired by India’s history, craftsmanship, and aviation heritage—creating a space that feels both global and deeply Indian.

Key highlights include:

The Aviator’s Bar
Designed with a classic speakeasy vibe, this bar features a curated selection of fine wines and premium whiskeys. Its ceiling draws inspiration from the historic 1932 Karachi–Bombay flight by J.R.D. Tata, replicating the propeller of the iconic Puss Moth aircraft—a tribute to Air India’s pioneering legacy.

The Globetrotter’s Study
A calm and elegant workspace designed for readers and professionals, this area offers a curated library of fiction and non-fiction titles, ample power outlets, and high-speed internet—ideal for quiet reading or productive work between flights.

Serenity Area
An enclosed, tranquil zone featuring individual recliners where guests can unwind, rest, and rejuvenate away from the bustle of the terminal.

Crystal Bar (First Class Lounge)
The centrepiece of the First Class section, the Crystal Bar exudes contemporary luxury with subtle Indian design accents. Serving premium champagnes and signature cocktails, its crystal enclosures create a shimmering, visually striking atmosphere—perfect for celebrating the journey ahead.

Tarmac Views
The First Class dining and seating areas overlook the runway, offering captivating views of aircraft taxiing, taking off, and landing—an immersive “wine and dine with a view” experience for aviation enthusiasts and travellers alike.

Exclusive Sleep Suites
First Class guests can enjoy private sleep suites designed for restorative pre-flight rest. Guests can wake up refreshed to a fresh juice or hot beverage before boarding, elevating comfort to an entirely new level.

Elevated dining with an Indian soul

Dining at The Maharaja Lounge is a carefully curated experience, featuring a wide selection of Indian and international cuisines, complemented by live cooking stations.

A standout feature is the “Beverage on Wheels” service, inspired by traditional gueridon service, allowing guests to enjoy bespoke cocktails prepared and served directly at their seats. Each cocktail is crafted by a specialist mixologist and carries a unique story rooted in Indian culture, ingredients, or Air India’s heritage—seamlessly blending tradition with modern mixology.

The airline has also introduced a distinctive Tea Programme, paying homage to India’s love for tea. Guests can enjoy freshly brewed teas tailored to their preferences, served with assorted snacks and savouries on a beautifully designed tea trolley.

Thoughtful touches that make it memorable

Adding a personal and nostalgic element to the experience, air india flights has introduced exclusive Maharaja-themed postcards within the lounge. Guests can keep them as souvenirs—an elegant reminder of their journey and the airline’s iconic legacy.

A statement of transformation

With the launch of The Maharaja Lounge in New Delhi, air india is not just opening a premium airport facility—it is making a clear statement about its ambitions. By combining heritage, design excellence, and thoughtful service, the airline is redefining what premium Indian hospitality looks like on the global stage, starting right at the airport lounge door.
