Air India Deploys Brand-New B787 Dreamliner on These Long-Haul Routes
Air India’s incoming Boeing 787-9 jets will replace older aircraft on the Mumbai–London Heathrow route, featuring new cabin interiors and marking a major step in the airline’s global transformation strategy.
Air India is accelerating its transformation journey, bringing newer aircraft, upgraded cabins, and enhanced passenger comfort to some of its most important long-haul routes.
As part of its Northern Summer Schedule 2026, India’s flagship carrier is steadily rolling out modern interiors and increasing frequencies — all aimed at delivering a smoother, more premium global travel experience.
From 1 July 2026, Air India will deploy its incoming new air india 787-9 aircraft on the high-demand Mumbai–London Heathrow route. These flights will operate alongside retrofitted legacy Boeing 787-8 jets, both featuring all-new cabin interiors designed to elevate comfort across classes.
The move replaces the currently deployed Boeing 777-300ER on the route, marking another milestone in the airline’s fleet modernization strategy. The upgraded cabins promise a refreshed onboard experience with redesigned seating, improved ambience, and modern in-flight features tailored to today’s international traveler.
With this deployment, air india continues strengthening its presence on the crucial India–UK corridor, particularly at London Heathrow Airport, one of the world’s busiest international hubs.
Beyond Mumbai–Heathrow, Air India is also enhancing connectivity across its global network. Frequencies are increasing on routes such as Delhi–Toronto and Delhi–Seoul, while new-generation aircraft are being introduced on sectors including Delhi–Melbourne and Bengaluru–London. Several routes will see the introduction of Premium Economy and even First Class, expanding customer choice across key destinations.
The airline is simultaneously retrofitting 26 legacy air india boeing 787 9 aircraft with brand-new interiors and its vibrant new livery. In addition, three new air india new 787 and two Airbus A350-1000 aircraft are expected to join the fleet in 2026, further strengthening Air India’s long-haul capabilities.
With expanded frequencies, upgraded cabins, and steady fleet induction, Air India is clearly positioning itself as a modern, globally competitive full-service carrier — focused on making international travel from India more seamless, comfortable, and premium than ever before.
