The Ahmedabad airport will be closed for 9 hours every day until May 31st.
According to airport officials, a section of Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport will be closed for 9 hours every day till May 31st, for runway re-carpeting.
Except on Sundays and public holidays, the resurfacing work will take place every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., resulting in the rescheduling of at least 52 aircraft arriving and departing from the airport.
“The purpose of runway maintenance is to keep planes safe and extend the life of the runway. Runway maintenance closures are required by international safety requirements. As a result, all relevant stakeholders are engaged and ample warning is given to adjust schedules under the advice of the safety authority to ensure minimal passenger disruption. We are dedicated to provide the greatest services to our passengers while maintaining their safety “, they tweeted.
Officials at the airport said they’ve taken precautions to guarantee that only minor flight changes are made at this time to minimise disruption. Passengers should double-check their flight schedules with their individual airlines.
The re-carpeting was supposed to happen in November of last year, but due to the holiday season, it was postponed.
“The work will comprise runway overlaying, runway strip grading and slope assessment, runway end safety area (RESA) grading and slope assessment, storm water drain construction, and reinstallation of signs in the manoeuvring area,” an airport official said in a statement.
