The world’s funniest airport codes revealed

Any flier facing a journey to DIE (Arrachart Airport, Madagascar) or SUX (Sioux Gateway, United States), isn’t going to expect too much from their destination.
But these abbreviations are just some of the unintentionally rude, comical or unfortunate code names, given to airports across the world.

The International Air Transport Association has officially named over 10,000 airports, with some more likely to raise a smirk than others.

Although they may sound like a five-year-old had a hand in choosing their names, there really are airports officially known as PEE (Perm International Airport, Russia) BUM (Butler Memorial Airport, United States) and POO (Pocos De Caldas, Brazil).

Animal lovers may want to tick off CAT (Cascais Municipal Aerodrome, Portugal), DOG (Dongola Airport, Sudan) and HOG (Frank Pais Airport, Cuba) on their jet-setting adventures. While others may be drawn to the promise of FUN (Funafuti, Tuvalu), FAB (Farnborough Airport, UK), OMG (Omega Airport, Namibia) and WOW (Willow Airport, United States).
