Safran Boosts ‘Make in India’ with New Engine Facility in Hyderabad, Creates 150 Jobs

French aerospace giant Safran is deepening its commitment to India by expanding its operations in Hyderabad.

Following the announcement of rafale fighter jets fuselage production in the country, Safran now plans to establish an engine services and production facility in the city. This move is set to create over 150 new jobs by the end of next year, further cementing Hyderabad’s status as a critical hub in India’s aerospace landscape.

Currently, Safran already operates two production units in Hyderabad. With the upcoming engine facility, the city is rapidly emerging as the central hub for Safran’s engine-related operations in India.

Potential Use of M88 Engine for India

In a strategic development, there is growing speculation that the Safran M88 engine, which powers the rafale jet, could eventually be adopted by India—especially amid delays in the delivery of the GE-F414 engines.

If realized, this would mark a significant step forward in indigenous fighter aircraft programs and further strengthen Indo-French defense collaboration.

Fuselage Production to Begin by FY2028

As part of a broader industrial partnership between Dassault Aviation and Tata Group, Hyderabad will also see the production of rafale share price fuselage sections, with the first units expected by fiscal year 2028.

The facility is designed to deliver up to two complete fuselages per month, enhancing India’s defense preparedness while boosting its capability in high-precision aerospace manufacturing.

Strategic Collaboration: Roundtable Insights

A recent roundtable involving senior Telangana government officials and a delegation of French business leaders explored deeper investment avenues in sectors such as:

  • Aerospace and Engineering
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Clean Energy
  • Advanced Manufacturing

These discussions reflect the broader ambition to turn India into a global manufacturing and technology powerhouse.

Aligned with Make in India and AtmaNirbhar Bharat

This series of collaborations and investments aligns perfectly with India’s national initiatives like ‘Make in India’ and ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’. The benefits are substantial:

  • Enhanced self-reliance in critical defense technologies
  • Thrust to India’s aerospace supply chain on the global stage
  • Creation of thousands of high-skilled jobs
  • Accelerated innovation and tech transfer

More than a Contract – A Leap Toward the Future

The Dassault-Tata partnership and Safran’s expanding footprint in India are more than just commercial deals—they represent a leap forward in India’s journey toward becoming a global leader in aerospace and defense manufacturing.

Hyderabad is not just hosting facilities; it is becoming the heart of India’s aerospace engine ecosystem, setting the stage for a new era of technological advancement and strategic autonomy.
