PIA Cleared for Takeoff: UK Lifts 5-Year Ban on Pakistani Flights

On Sunday, just days after a historic Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight landed in Paris, marking the end of a four-year ban, the airline is now gearing up to expand its operations to the United Kingdom.

Following the success of its Paris relaunch, pia airline is eyeing direct flights to Manchester and London as its next milestones. Sources revealed that the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had granted an exemption from a security audit, signaling renewed confidence in Pakistan’s aviation standards.

Additionally, the UK’s Department for Transport (DFT) team expressed satisfaction with the CAA’s updated manual report. The formal safety audits of both PIA and the CAA have already been completed successfully, paving the way for seamless operations.

PIA plans to resume direct flights to the UK in February 2025. The Director General of the CAA described this development as a “New Year gift to the nation,” promising a significant boost to Pakistan’s aviation sector. Initially, the airline will restart flights to Manchester, followed by London and other UK destinations in subsequent phases.

Meanwhile, PIA made headlines in Paris this week with a vibrant roadshow celebrating the arrival of its first flight from Islamabad. The event drew Pakistani nationals and travel agents from across France and Europe.

Speaking at the roadshow, PIA Chief Commercial Officer Nausherwan Adil shared the overwhelming response from the diaspora. “Compatriots living abroad have given PIA a response beyond expectations,” he said, adding that the airline aims to expand its European network on a commercial basis.

The demand for PIA flights to more European cities is growing among the Pakistani community, who view the airline’s return as a more convenient and affordable travel option. Since PIA’s Paris relaunch, airfare prices for other airlines operating to Pakistan have noticeably dropped, offering more competitive choices for travelers.
