Lufthansa Technik Malta Ventures into Boeing 787 Heavy Maintenance
Lufthansa Technik Malta (LTM) is named the European center of excellence for widebody aircraft overhaul. The company, which recently marked its 20th anniversary, will broaden its portfolio to include base maintenance services for Boeing 787 planes.
LTM is now investing several million Euros in technical expert training, tooling, and material. The first aircraft is planned to arrive in the spring of 2024.
In a statement, Maria Cilia, Head of Base Maintenance Services and CEO of Lufthansa Technik Malta, said: “It is a pleasure to begin my role as the new CEO of Lufthansa Technik Malta with such a significant investment in our business.
We will strengthen our presence in the Maltese community and open up new opportunities for current and future employees as a result of the expansion of our portfolio. This will allow us to serve the Boeing 787 operators in the area while also becoming the centre of excellence for widebody aircraft overhaul in Europe.
Over the years, LTM’s service offering has expanded to include a wide range of base maintenance services. The business was also the first to house the Lufthansa Technik Innovation Bay, which tested new technology such as mobile 3D scanners, exoskeletons, and drone-based aircraft fuselage inspections.
