Italy quarantines 242 passengers on Air India’s Amritsar-Rome flight after 30 were found to be COVID-positive.
According to the reports, the Italian government has quarantined all 242 people on board, including those who tested positive for COVID.
Last Thursday, just hours before the Amritsar-Rome flight touched down, the Italian government released an order stating that all passengers arriving from India will be quarantined for 10 days at a location determined by its officials.
India is dealing with the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, with hospitals in many states suffering from extreme medication, oxygen, and bed shortages.

On Monday, the number of daily COVID-19 cases in the country fell slightly, with 3,68,147 new infections reported in 24 hours.
The 232 passengers, eight cabin crew members, and two pilots were sent to a hotel for paid quarantine. The second RT-PCR test, performed after a few days of quarantine, came back negative for the seven crew members and a pilot. AI is now making plans to fly them back home, either on their own or on other commercial airlines.

This Vande Barat Mission flight took place on Thursday (April 29). Italy conducts pre-arrival monitoring. Many passengers, as well as two crew members, tested positive. As a result, everyone on board the Dreamliner from Amritsar to Rome was quarantined for a few days. The captain and the flight’s senior most crew member will be quarantined in Italy before they test negative.
