In Rajasthan’s Barmer, an Air Force MiG-21 fighter crash-landed on Thursday evening, killing two of the pilots on board.

“This evening, an IAF twin-seater Mig-21 trainer took out for a training mission from Utarlai Air Base in Rajasthan. Near Barmer, the aircraft had an accident at about 9:10 p.m. Both of the pilots suffered fatal wounds “Air Force released a statement.

IAF additionally stated that it “truly regrets the loss of lives and stands firmly with the bereaved families.”

It stated that a court of inquiry has been appointed to look into the accident‘s root cause.

After the crash, Rajnath Singh, the defence minister, spoke with Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari.

Mr. Singh posted on Twitter that he was “deeply saddened” by the deaths of two Air Warriors as a result of an IAF Mig-21 trainer aircraft accident close to Barmer, Rajasthan.

The MiG-21 is a single-engine, multirole fighter/ground attack aircraft from the Soviet era that previously served as the IAF fleet’s mainstay.

The aircraft has a dismal safety record and is anticipated to be retired from service within the next ten years, at which point more contemporary models will take its place.
