Flights can often be hectic for travelers, and passengers flying to or from the UK soon may face additional delays due to major road closures.

british airways flights has issued a warning to holidaymakers and travelers about potential disruptions at the UK’s two busiest airports, Heathrow and Gatwick, in March and April. If you’re traveling during this time, make sure to check your routes and plan ahead.

M25 Road Closures in March 2025

The M25, one of the UK’s busiest motorways, will be closed in both directions between Junctions 9 and 10 on two weekends in March:

  • March 8-10, 2025: Full closure from 9:00 PM on Friday to 6:00 AM on Monday between Junction 10 and Junction 11 at Chertsey.
  • March 22-24, 2025: Another full closure in both directions on the same stretch, from 9:00 PM on Friday to 6:00 AM on Monday.

These closures are expected to cause significant delays for passengers traveling to Heathrow and Gatwick, with traffic congestion likely on alternative routes. british airways has advised passengers to allow extra time for their journeys and consider alternative routes to avoid missing their flights.

Further disruptions are also planned in April:

  • April 11-14, 2025: Full closure of the A3 in both directions between Junction 10 and the Painshill roundabout from 9:00 PM on Friday to 6:00 AM on Monday.
  • February 15-16, 2025: Overnight closure of the A3 between Junction 10 interchange and the B2215/A247 at Send, with more overnight closures expected in the coming months.

Passengers flying with British Airways, EasyJet, Jet2, TUI, Ryanair, and other airlines have been urged to check live traffic updates, plan their routes, and allow additional travel time. National Highways has also issued similar advice to minimize delays during these roadworks.

The most affected weekends will be March 8-9 and March 22-23, so if you have flights booked during these times, be prepared for longer travel times. British Airways said, “A diversion will be in place, but please allow extra time and plan ahead for your journey to the airport.”
