An Off-duty pilot of Alaska Airlines tries to shut down engines in mid-air
An off-duty Alaska Airlines pilot who was a passenger in the cockpit of a San Francisco-bound flight was charged with attempted murder on Sunday after attempting to shut down the plane’s engines mid-flight.
The jet was supposed to fly from Everett, Washington, to San Francisco before being diverted to Portland late Sunday due to a “credible security threat related to an authorized occupant in the flight deck jump seat,” according to the airline.
The individual occupying the jump seat made an ineffective attempt to interfere with the engine’s functionality. An airline statement stated that the crew successfully secured the aircraft, the engines remained operational, and the captain and first officer of Horizon, an Alaska Airlines affiliate, reacted promptly.
The pilot is audibly heard saying, “We’ve got the guy that tried to shut the engines down out of the cockpit,” in the flight recorders. Nothing in his back seems to be bothering him at the moment. The pilot said to air traffic control, “I think he’s subdued.” “Apart from that, we want law enforcement to show up as soon as we park and touch down.”

PIA Reinstates Manchester and Paris Routes After EU Ban Lift

With European operations restarting, PIA is now setting its sights on the United Kingdom. The airline plans to seek approval from the UK Department for Transport (DfT) to resume flights to major British cities such as London, Manchester, and Birmingham.
