American Airlines disputes reports that passenger who ‘passed gas’ caused emergency landing

RALEIGH, N.C. (WCMH) — American Airlines is disputing a report that a person who “passed gas” on a plane Sunday afternoon forced all passengers off the jet
The incident happened when passengers on the flight became ill with nausea and headaches, according to a spokesperson with Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

The spokesperson told WNCN-TV the odor was from a passenger who “passed gas.”

Authorities later said that the incident was a “medical call” and directed all questions to Wake County EMS.

“The medical call came in for someone affected by an odor after the plane deplaned normally,” the airport official said in the statement.
