Airline plans to weigh passengers before they can board aircraft

Airline

A European airline will now ask passengers to step on the scales before they board an aircraft – but Finnair promises it’s not to penalise overweight passengers.

Instead, the airline hopes to weigh 100 to 150 passengers per flight so it can work out the weight its flights are carrying more accurately. At present it’s working on estimates from the European Aviation Safety Agency, which were made eight years ago, according to The Sun. It’s not the only airline where passengers have to step on the scales, though.

Hawaiian Airlines now no longer allows any passengers to pre-select seats on flights between Pago Pago and Honolulu and weights everyone getting on board. The idea of the policy is that larger passengers can be placed so that the aircraft is not imbalanced in flight.
